Unit 2/4: Cartoon on inequality - perfect for explaining analysis and evaluation!

This cartoon is something that you are sure to have an opinion on and can be used to clearly explain the difference between analysis and providing evaluative comment.

The analysis comes under the heading about why the cartoon is often true and the evaluation comes from considering whether it is always true.

Try and make some comments under each of the headings. If you do this, you should have analysed and evaluated!

  1. the sketch suggests that children raised among poverty are likely to stay in poverty. And children brought up in wealth are more likely to stay in wealth as they grow up.It shows this idea by parents giving their state of wealth to there children in the sketch. In my opinion, this idea is completely wrong because wealth is not determined by what you receive. It can be on what how u make it.For example the boy who was raised in poverty can become successful by a new business scheme or can get a sponsership to study in a good university and get a good income when graduduated. On the other hand, the bot raised in great wealth could lose his money by a stupid decision or may not be able to sustain a good income when older because he doesnt get a good job or doesnt establish a doos business like his parents.SO in conclusion your WEALTH isnt neccisarily determined by your inheritence and could be determined by many other things. Its not about what your parents give you its about what YOU do to sustain or gain your wealth in this life

  2. This can be true but if a poor person is hard working enough he could maybe come up with a great idea and get rich of it. If a rich kid doesn't work hard he could maybe earn nothing in life. But usually poor kids are poor because their attitude to everything is influenced by their parents.Same with a rich child. E.g rich kids dad has high expectation and etc of his son so takes him to very good school. The child is usually influenced to have a better lifestyle.

  3. This is true but it's not always the case. Although the rich kid would more than likely grow up and become even more rich who is to say he doesn't loose all of his money in a bad investment or a bad business decision? Nobody is stopping the poor kid from becoming wealthy either. He may not even have any education at all. That doesn't stop multi millionaire athletes from succeeding.
So wealth isn't something that is given to you forever and it's not a guarantee either.

  4. Thank you Ollie. You make some very good points. However, education is a big factor in whether yoiu become wealthy or not....and I'm afraid the top athletes from poor backgrounds are the exception rather than the rule!
